3 Day Long Startup Mahakumbh Begins In New Delhi: Aims To Connect Startups With Inventors

Startup Mahakumbh, an event that aims to connect startups with inventors, began at Bharat Mandapam of New Delhi on 18th March 2024. The three-day-long event is one of the biggest events showcasing the startup ecosystem of India. 

A Convergence of Innovation and Entrepreneurship

The event will have sector-focused pavilions, including pavilions on AI, B2B, agritech, deep tech, climate tech, gaming, esports, fintech, incubators, and accelerators. This startup event aims to connect startups with a spectrum of inventors, including venture capitalists, investors, and potential corporate partners. 

Unique Scale and Scope of Startup Mahakumbh

At a curtain raiser press conference held in New Delhi, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh emphasized the unique scale and significance of Startup Mahakumbh. He noted that this event stands out as the first of its kind, organized on a grand scale in the national capital. India’s startup ecosystem, ranked third-largest globally, continues to witness rapid growth with new additions regularly enriching the landscape.

Anticipated Participation of PM and Impact

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to grace the event with his presence, highlighting the government’s commitment to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship. The event is poised to attract more than two thousand startups, thirty thousand aspiring entrepreneurs, and fifty thousand business visitors, along with thousands of investors and over five hundred incubators. Notably, delegations from ten countries will also participate, further enhancing the event’s international reach and impact.

Startup Mahakumbh: Day 1 Unveils Promising Insights and Vision

The inaugural day of Startup Mahakumbh, a premier gathering of Indian startups, witnessed enlightening sessions led by industry stalwarts. The festivities commenced with a stimulating panel discussion centered around the pivotal role of startups in realizing the vision of Viksit Bharat, emphasizing informed discussions on the crucial contributions of Indian startups.

Empowering the Indian Startup Ecosystem

Panelists expressed optimism that Startup Mahakumbh could serve as a launchpad for India’s dynamic startup ecosystem. The plenary inaugural session saw the esteemed presence of Amitabh Kant, G20 Sherpa and Former CEO of NITI Aayog, Rajesh Kumar Singh, Secretary of DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOC&I), and other distinguished leaders.

A Vision for Growth and Job Creation

Amitabh Kant articulated the remarkable growth story of Indian startups, highlighting their significant role in job creation. He urged for a broader ambition of India to become the world’s leading startup nation, emphasizing the indirect creation of over 10 million jobs and fostering a vibrant gig economy.

Enriching Sessions and Strategic Insights

Throughout the inaugural day, startups, incubators, unicorns, future entrepreneurs, and key stakeholders engaged in keynote sessions, panel discussions, and fireside chats led by industry leaders. The discussions ranged from strategies for fostering creativity and disruption, envisioning the next decade for the ecosystem, building multi-generational businesses, and exploring opportunities in crucial sectors like Agritech, AI & SaaS, Climate Tech, Gaming, and Deep Tech.

Day 1 featured insightful discussions, including Peyush Bansal’s perspective on consumer loyalty and business models, and a fireside chat with the Founder and CEO of Zomato, offering invaluable insights and inspiration to the audience.

Global Collaboration and Annual Affair

The mega event, hosting over 1,000 startups, 500 incubators, numerous investors, and delegations from 10 countries, is set to become an annual cornerstone for the startup community. With participation from 23 states showcasing their startup ecosystems, the event aims to bolster innovation and collaboration on a global scale.

Organized by ASSOCHAM, NASSCOM, Bootstrap Incubation and Advisory Foundation, TiE, IVCA, and supported by DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Startup Mahakumbh marks a collective effort to elevate India’s innovation prowess. The event underscores India’s aspiration to ascend from its current innovation ranking and solidify its position as a leading hub for startups.

Startup Mahakumbh serves as a platform for startups to showcase their innovative ideas, develop strategic partnerships, and access valuable resources and mentorship. Through the comprehensive approach and diverse participant base, the event acts as a catalyst of innovation.
