Devi Sri Prasad Breaks Silence on Exit from ‘Pushpa 2’ and ‘Good Bad Ugly’: Humor Meets Controversy
Renowned composer Devi Sri Prasad (DSP), celebrated for his musical contributions to Tamil and Telugu cinema, recently addressed rumors about his departure from two major projects: Ajith Kumar’s Good Bad Ugly and Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2: The Rule.
At the Pushpa 2 promotional event in Chennai, DSP broke his silence on the controversy, which has stirred significant discussion in the film industry.
The Exit: Speculations and Replacements
DSP’s unexpected exit from Good Bad Ugly and Pushpa 2 led to widespread speculation. Reports suggested differences with producers Mythri Movie Makers as the reason behind his departure.
Adding fuel to the controversy, Sam CS has been confirmed to handle the background score for Pushpa 2, while GV Prakash has been roped in for Good Bad Ugly. However, DSP’s songs for both films remain part of the projects, sustaining the excitement among fans.
DSP’s Statement at the Pushpa 2 Event
During the Chennai promotional event, DSP addressed the allegations head-on with candid remarks. Referring to producer Ravi Shankar of Mythri Movie Makers, he stated:
“Producer Ravi sir, you’ve been blaming me, saying I didn’t deliver the songs or background score on time. I know you love me. Where there is love, there are complaints as well. But I think you have more complaints about me than love.”
The comment, delivered with a mix of humor and sincerity, quickly went viral, sparking discussions within the Telugu cinema industry. DSP’s directness highlighted a rare instance of a public figure addressing behind-the-scenes tensions.
Behind-the-Scenes Disagreements
DSP also reflected on his broader working relationship with the producers, hinting at recurring issues:
“Even now, I came to the venue 20-25 minutes ago. They asked me to wait to make an entry for the camera. When I heard the song Kissik being played, I came running. As soon as I arrived, you said, ‘Wrong timing, sir. You’re late.’ What can I do?”
These statements shed light on the challenges he faced while working on the projects, including perceived delays and logistical misunderstandings.
Industry Reactions and the Pushpa Phenomenon
The controversies surrounding DSP’s departure have caused ripples across the Telugu film fraternity, where public airing of disputes is rare.
Despite the tensions, the anticipation for Pushpa 2: The Rule remains at an all-time high. Produced on an estimated budget of Rs. 400-500 crore, the sequel aims to join the elite Rs. 1000 crore club.
The film’s release, scheduled for December 5, is expected to be a cinematic extravaganza, featuring Allu Arjun reprising his role as Pushparaj alongside Rashmika Mandanna and Fahadh Faasil. Returning crew members include cinematographer Mirosław Kuba Brożek and editor Naveen Nooli.
DSP’s Perspective on Pushpa’s Legacy
Despite the controversies, DSP expressed his admiration for Pushpa 2 and Allu Arjun’s performance. He described the film as a significant milestone in his career:
“You all celebrated Pushpa 1 as a festival after its release. For Pushpa 2, you have made it a festival even before the release. Thanks to all across the world for making Pushpa 1 a blockbuster.”
He also praised Allu Arjun’s work, saying, “Bunny, I have to tell you one thing in the presence of all of them here. You have shown your Viswaroopam (universal form) in the film. As someone who loves cinema, I am mind-blown.”
Moving Forward: DSP’s Upcoming Projects
Known for hits like Singam, Villu, Arya, and Gabbar Singh, DSP remains a sought-after composer. His recent works include Rathnam and Kanguva. He is also set to score music for Adhik Ravichandran’s Good Bad Ugly and Chandoo Mondeti’s Thandel, starring Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi.
The Road Ahead for Pushpa 2: The Rule
Directed by Sukumar, Pushpa 2: The Rule is a continuation of the 2021 blockbuster Pushpa: The Rise. The sequel will bring back an ensemble cast, including Sunil, Anasuya Bharadwaj, Dhananjaya, and others.
The recently released song Kissik has already fueled excitement, further elevating expectations for the film’s grand release.
With its massive scale, returning star power, and DSP’s impactful musical contributions, Pushpa 2 is poised to set new records and captivate audiences worldwide.
Despite the controversies, the music maestro’s legacy in these projects will undoubtedly leave an indelible mark.
