Background :

Ajinkya Rahane was born on June 6, 1988, to Madhukar Baburao Rahane and Sujata Rahane in Ashwi KD, Sangamner Taluka, Ahmednagar district. Shashank and Apurva Rahane are his younger brother and sister, respectively. As they could not afford formal coaching, Madhukar Rahane took Ajinkya Rahane to a little coaching camp in Dombivli with a matting wicket when Ajinkya Rahane was seven years old. Ajinkya Rahane began receiving coaching from former India batsman Pravin Amre when he was 17 years old. Ajinkya Rahane graduated from SV Joshi High School in Dombivli with a Secondary School Certificate. On September 26, 2014, Ajinkya Rahane wed his childhood friend Radhika Dhopavkar. Aarya, a daughter, was born to the couple on October 4, 2019. On 5 October 2022, a boy, their second child, was born.

Career :

Ajinkya Rahane began his cricket journey with impressive performances for India U-19, including two centuries during their tour of New Zealand in early 2007. Ajinkya Rahane made his first-class debut for Mumbai in the Mohammad Nissar Trophy, where Ajinkya Rahane scored a century on debut and followed it up with a score of 172 against the England Lions. Ajinkya Rahane’s exceptional performances in domestic cricket, including scoring over 1000 runs in multiple seasons, led to Ajinkya Rahane’s selection for India’s Test squad. Ajinkya Rahane made his Test debut in 2011 after a strong showing in the Irani Trophy match against Rajasthan. In List A cricket, Ajinkya Rahane made his debut for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and impressed with a partnership of 171 runs alongside Wasim Jaffer. Ajinkya Rahane continued to perform well in various tournaments, earning a place in the India ODI squad for the tour of England in 2011. Ajinkya Rahane’s limited-overs career has seen some ups and downs, with notable performances against England and Sri Lanka but also periods of struggle and inconsistency. Ajinkya Rahane showed promise at the top of the order but was pushed back to the middle order due to the dominance of other batsmen. In T20 internationals, Ajinkya Rahane made his debut against England and scored a half-century. Ajinkya Rahane was also part of India’s team that reached the final of the 2014 World T20. Ajinkya Rahane captained India in a couple of T20 matches against Zimbabwe. Ajinkya Rahane in IPL :

Ajinkya Rahane started his IPL career with the Rajasthan Royals in 2012, after being bought from the Mumbai Indians where he had limited opportunities. Opening the innings with Rahul Dravid gave him a chance to showcase his skills and Ajinkya Rahane had a successful stint under Dravid’s mentorship. In the 2012 IPL, Rahane made an impact by hitting a match-winning 98 in his first game and an unbeaten 103 in the next match. Ajinkya Rahane became the leading run-scorer for Rajasthan Royals that season and was retained for the 2014 season. Ajinkya Rahane’s transformation as a player across formats is credited to Rahul Dravid’s guidance. Ajinkya Rahane made little changes to improve his game and became a vital player for both Rajasthan Royals and the Indian cricket team. During the Rajasthan Royals’ ban, Rahane played for Rising Pune Supergiant in 2016 and 2017. Ajinkya Rahane led the team in a match in 2017 when captain Steve Smith was unavailable. In 2018, Ajinkya Rahane was bought back by Rajasthan Royals and appointed as captain after Steve Smith’s ball-tampering scandal. However, Ajinkya Rahane’s performance in subsequent seasons led to his exclusion from India’s ODI and T20I squads. Ajinkya Rahane was transferred to Delhi Capitals in 2019 but returned to Rajasthan Royals for the 2021 season. After a disappointing 2021 season, Ajinkya Rahane was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders in 2022 and then by Chennai Super Kings in the 2023 auction. In the IPL 2023 season, Ajinkya Rahane played a crucial role for Chennai Super Kings, batting at no.3 and maintaining a strike rate of 175+. Ajinkya Rahane’s performances were instrumental in CSK winning the title, marking his first IPL championship.
