Background :

Sanju Samson, an Indian cricketer who competes internationally and leads Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League, was born on November 11, 1994. Sanju Samson was the vice-captain of the Indian U-19 team for the 2014 Under-19 Cricket World Cup and a right-handed wicket-keeper-batter. Sanju Samson played his first T20 international for India against Zimbabwe in 2015. Sanju Samson played Sri Lanka in his first ODI match in 2021. After beginning his cricket career in Delhi, Sanju Samson eventually relocated to Kerala. Sanju Samson made waves in youth cricket before debuting for Kerala in the first class in 2011. Sanju Samson played for Rajasthan Royals in his inaugural IPL season in 2013 and was named Emerging Player of the Year. In the sixth time that an Indian scored a double-century in List A cricket—and second-fastest double tonne in the format— Sanju Samson scored an unbeaten 212 in the 2019–20 Vijay Hazare Trophy. Sanju Samson hails from a Malayali family in Pulluvila, Kerala. Sanju Samson’s father, Samson Viswanath, a former police constable and football player, moved the family to Kerala after Sanju Samson was not selected for the Delhi U-13 cricket team. Sanju Samson pursued his education in Delhi and Kerala, and apart from cricket, Sanju Samson had a childhood dream of becoming an IPS officer.

Career :

Sanju Samson, a talented cricketer from Kerala, showcased his skills from a young age. Sanju Samson excelled in the U-13 and U-16 cricket teams, earning accolades such as the Player of the Tournament award in the KSCA Inter-State tournament and a double century in the Vijay Merchant Trophy. Sanju Samson captained both the Kerala U-16 and U-19 teams. Sanju Samson’s domestic career started early when Sanju Samson became the youngest cricketer from Kerala to play in the Ranji Trophy at the age of 14. Sanju Samson had a few inconsistent seasons but made a strong comeback, becoming the leading run-scorer for Kerala in the 2017-18 Ranji Trophy. Despite a stop-start international career, Sanju Samson has represented India in both T20Is and ODIs, with notable performances such as a maiden half-century in ODIs and a maiden T20I half-century, making him a promising talent for the future. Sanju Samson is praised for his aggressive and elegant batting style, showcasing natural talent and quality techniques. Sanju Samson holds the bat high on the handle and possesses fast hands, powerful forearms, and excellent hand-eye coordination. Known for his timing and ability to play straight, Sanju Samson prefers hitting straight over the bowler’s head. Comparisons have been drawn to powerful stroke-makers like Rohit Sharma and AB de Villiers due to their ability to generate power effortlessly. While Sanju Samson is a fearless batsman in T20 cricket, Sanju Samson’s weakness lies in rotating the strike. Sanju Samson is also an athletic and flexible fielder, but Sanju Samson has faced criticism for inconsistency, shot selection, and temperament.

IPL :

Sanju Samson was named in the player pool of Kolkata Knight Riders for the 2009 Indian Premier League but did not get to play until he was signed by the team in 2012. Unfortunately, Sanju Samson did not get a chance to play and was released before the 2013 season. However, Sanju Samson was then signed by Rajasthan Royals for the 2013 season and made his IPL debut for them in April 2013. In Sanju Samson’s second match, he scored a half-century and became the youngest player at that time to achieve this milestone in the IPL. Sanju Samson won the Best Young Player award that season for his impressive performance. Sanju Samson also made his Champions League Twenty20 debut for Rajasthan Royals in September 2013, where Sanju Samson scored another half-century and became the youngest player to do so in CLT20. Sanju Samson was retained by Rajasthan for the 2014 season. In 2016, Sanju Samson was signed by Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) after Rajasthan Royals faced a ban. During the 2017 IPL, Sanju Samson scored his maiden T20 century. Sanju Samson returned to Rajasthan Royals in the 2018 IPL auction and went on to score his second IPL century in the following season. In the 2020 season, Sanju Samson played some notable innings, including a 32-ball 74 and leading Rajasthan to the highest successful run chase in IPL history. Sanju Samson also played his 100th IPL match that season. In January 2021, Sanju Samson was named the captain of Rajasthan Royals for the 2021 IPL. Sanju Samson marked his captaincy debut with a century, becoming the first IPL captain to achieve this feat. Later in the season, Sanju Samson completed 3000 runs in the IPL. Sanju Samson was retained by Rajasthan Royals for the 2022 season, where Sanju Samson surpassed Ajinkya Rahane to become the all-time leading run-scorer for the team. Under his leadership, Rajasthan reached the finals but finished as the runners-up. In the IPL 2023 season, Sanju Samson’s team had an impressive start but their performance was not up to the mark in the second half of the season.
